Yes, that's right. It's sand and castle, not sandcastles. The beaches in Marazion may not have the light brown sand and blue clear waters of St. Ives but it's main attraction should not be missed when visiting Cornwall. St. Michael's Mount is an island where you can see a castle on top. On low tide, you can reach the island through a causeway from the beach. We had a tour of the garden and hiked our way almost on top of the hill to get a good view of the castle (we were not able to get tickets to enter the castle because I chose not to due to my fear of heights - don't want to go through the abbey tower experience again). It was a magnificent view on top overlooking Mount's Bay. We went by boat on our way back as the high tide already covered most of the causeway.
St. Michael's Mount is the Cornish counterpart of Mont Saint-Michel in Normandy, France when it was given to the Benedictines. The remains of the monastery were rebuilt into a castle. The medieval castle is the home of the St Aubyn family for 300 years.
